About the Southeast Asian Translation Mentorship

Mentee announced!

Projects: Bio

Congratulations to Amanda Echanis, winner of the Southeast Asian Translation Mentorship (organised by the seams in conjunction with Ethos Books)!

Amanda will be working on English translations of Filipino poetry under the guidance of primary mentor Kristine Ong Muslim, with assistance from the rest of the seams. More about Amanda: she is an activist, researcher and organizer of the Amihan National Federation of Peasant Women, and the author of the book Binhi ng Paglaya (Gantala Press 2023). She was arrested on fabricated charges in December 2020, and is being held as a political prisoner in Cagayan Valley. If you would like to learn more about Amanda and how to lend your support, please visit the “Free Amanda Echanis Movement” Facebook Page.

We would also like to congratulate our two finalists, Shirinder Kaur (translating from Malay) and NH Legaspi (translating from Filipino). A big thank you to all our applicants for taking the time and effort to submit!
